Hand Woven Priest Overlay & Deacon Stoles

Since ancient times, fabrics have been woven using linen, wool, cotton, and silk. Weaving was done in the home for practical clothing needs and finer, more elaborate pieces were woven by professional weavers formed into guilds.

The scripture writers of both the Old and New Testaments give evidence of weaving as daily domestic work. The Books of Tobit and Proverbs reveal that weaving was a common part of women’s work...

“At that time my wife Anna worked for hire at weaving cloth, the kind of work women do.”  – Tobit 2:11

Because weaving was a daily part of life, the writers make mention of weaver’s instruments to describe what they desired to communicate...

“The shaft of his javelin was like a weaver’s heddle bar...” 1 Samuel 17:7

“My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle; they come to an end without any hope.”  – Job 7:6

“Like a weaver, I have rolled up my life, he has cut me from the loom.” – Isaiah 38:12

The tunic of Jesus was itself woven...

“There was also His tunic, but this tunic was woven in one piece from top to bottom and had no seam.” – John 18:23

More importantly, Scripture reveals to us that woven material was used for the sacred vestments and articles of cloth in the sanctuary...

“With violet, purple and scarlet yarns were woven the service cloths for use in the sanctuary, as well as sacred vestments for Aaron, as the Lord had commanded Moses.”  – Exodus 39:1

These hand woven stoles are created with loving prayer in silence and solitude.

The Priest overlay stole is sewn mitered at the back with an elegant chain for support at the neck. The Deacon stole is sewn in the angled sash style. It is angled at the right hip and supported with an elegant chain. Stole width for all is approximately 4 1/2" to 5".

May the priests of God who wear these sacred vestments truly bear Christ’s yoke. In the act of offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, may they lead to true worship all who come to praise, adore and offer themselves in union with Jesus to the Father through the Holy Spirit.

May the deacons who wear these sacred vestments serve with the very Spirit of Jesus.

May Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ and Mother of all, protect, strengthen and draw to her tender heart all who wear these hand woven stoles.

Mary,
tenderly place me near the Heart of your Son, Christ Jesus. Help me hear His words of love whispered for my heart alone. Teach me to thirst for His words and to hunger for His Food and Drink joining my brothers and sisters around the altar of His Love. Mary, ask Jesus to increase my longing to be satisfied in Him alone.
Amen.
